PAIR OF ETRUSCO-CORINTHIAN OLPE, 7TH CENTURY B.C.

Nice pair of olpe with polychrome decoration of two broad bands of semi-circles separated by purple lines. Round flared mouth, ovoid body, large handle ending at the neck with two small round appliques. 
The area left in reserve at the base of the belly is decorated with a frieze of elongated drops. The round appliques are decorated with a white crosses and each scale is dotted with each side of the cove is a scroll also in white. 
In the late seventh century B.C., the size of the Italo-Corinthian vases is getting larger : Olpes and oinochoes are very popular, the latter being frequently decorated with wide bands of semi-circles which are the implementation of the Corinthian pattern scales. The scale-pattern , of Mycenaean origin, reappears in Crete during the Geometric period. 

Attributed to the "Group of the interlaced arches" - Grouppo degli Archetti intrecciati.
