Greek art
Athenian potters invented neither pottery, nor the use of the wheel, which had appeared at the end of the 4th millennium in the Middle East and had spread throughout the Mediterranean. But it is nonetheless true that, thanks to the quality of its clay and the skillfulness of its potters, Athens, for several centuries produced a ceramic unrivaled throughout the Greek world. The dominance of the attic pottery starts to prevail towards the end of the 7th century B.C. supplanting the Corinthian production.
